The author of over 600 composition, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was one of the most prolific composers of the Classical era, one of the most influential of his age, and remains one of the most popular today.  A devout Catholic, a fixture at the court of Salzburg, a central figure in the music scene of Vienna, he is nevertheless often popularly conceived of as a precursor to twentieth-century rock stars.  His playing and conducting was powerful and energetic, his clothes flamboyant and bright -- he often wore crimson with bright gold accents -- and maybe most importantly in light of that reputation, he delighted in his crude sense of humor, even to the extent of composing "Leck mich im Arsch" ("kiss my butt"), a canon in B-flat major, when he was 26.
